Tech. Description

Flared Maxi Dress with Wide Collar

A sleeveless women's maxi dress with a wide flat collar forming a deep V at the front, princess seams from the armholes, and centre front and centre back seams. Six gores set into the lower ends of the vertical seams flare the hem.

When To Wear

  • Summer daytime events, parties and holidays.
  • With sandals or heeled shoes; with a light cardigan or bolero on cooler evenings.

Key Design Features

Silhouette: Close-fitting through the bodice, waist and hips, flaring out from about knee level.

Length: Ankle length; hem overlocked, turned up and topstitched 1 cm from the edge.

Collar: Wide flat collar covering the shoulders, meeting in a V at the front and falling in soft ripples at the back. The upper collar is interfaced; the under collar is cut in two with a centre seam. The under collar is sewn to the neckline and the turned-under edge of the upper collar is stitched in the ditch of that seam, so no facing is needed.

Sleeves: Sleeveless; armholes finished with bias binding folded in half lengthwise.

Front: Centre front seam and princess seams from the armholes.

Closure: Concealed zip in the left side seam.

Back: Centre back seam and princess seams from the armholes, matching the front.

Skirt: Six gores: one each in the centre front and centre back seams, and one in each front and back princess seam. The side seams have none.

Level Of Difficulty

Intermediate. Gores set into seam ends, long princess seams, a collar attached by stitching in the ditch, bias-bound armholes and a concealed zip in the side seam.

Fabric Recommendations

Fabrics made of natural or blended fibres.
