Sleeves: Generous batwing sleeves cut in one with the front and back, gathered into neat buttoned cuffs with a short vent.

Closure: Features a concealed zipper at the center back for a seamless finish, along with one button on each cuff.

Waist: The gathered lower edge of the blouse is sewn into a waistband whose long ends tie at the left side, where a slit in the side seam lets them through for an adjustable fit.

Level Of Difficulty

  • Chiffon (natural or blended fibers)

Additional Supplies

  • Fusible interfacing

Cutting Plan

  • From main fabric:
  • Front – 2 pieces
  • Cuff – 2 pieces
  • Front Neckline Facing – 1 piece
  • Back Neckline Facing – 2 pieces
  • Waistband – 2 pieces
  • Back – 2 pieces
  • From fusible interfacing: Cuff, Front Neckline Facing, Back Neckline Facing

Sewing Instructions

  1. Fuse interfacing to the cuffs and the front and back neckline facings.
  2. Overlock the center front and center back edges. Stitch the center front seam and press it open. Stitch the center back seam up to the zipper notch. Press the center back seam open, pressing the zipper opening allowances as well.
  3. Overlock and stitch the side seams together with the underarm sleeve seams, leaving a slit in the left side seam and a vent at the lower end of each sleeve seam. Press the side seams open and press the slit and vent allowances. Stitch and overlock the shoulder seams together with the upper sleeve seams. Press the shoulder seams towards the back.
  4. Stitch the shoulder seams of the facings and press them open. Overlock the outer edge of the facings. Insert the zipper into the center back seam. Stitch the facing to the front and back neckline. Fold under the center back edges of the facing and stitch them to the zipper. Understitch the neckline seam allowance onto the facing 0.2 cm from the seam.
  5. Stitch the Waistband pieces together at the side seam. Press the seam open. Overlock the inner long edge of the waistband. Press the waistband in half lengthwise, wrong sides together.
  6. Run a line of loose (long) stitches 0.5 cm from the lower edge of the blouse. Gather the lower edge to fit the waistband for your size.
  7. Topstitch around the slit in the left side seam 0.5 cm from the edge. Stitch the waistband to the lower edge of the blouse. Stitch across the ends of the waistband (tie ends), trim the excess allowances and turn the ends right side out. Press the waistband and topstitch it in the ditch of the attachment seam.
  8. Overlock the inner edge of each cuff. Stitch the cuff ends. Trim the excess fabric at the corners and the excess allowances. Turn the cuff right side out and press.
  9. Run a line of loose stitches along the lower edge of the sleeve and gather. Stitch the outer layer of the cuff to the lower edge of the sleeve. Topstitch the cuff in the ditch of the attachment seam. Work a buttonhole on each cuff and sew on the buttons.

Tip: if desired, you can make the waistband as a separate tie belt, as shown in the design drawing.
