Tech. Description

Diagonal Overlay Shift Dress

Introducing a versatile women's sewing pattern for a comfortable shift dress, distinguished by an eye-catching diagonal overlay that creates a layered, modern silhouette.

When To Wear

This stylish dress offers relaxed elegance, making it perfect for a variety of settings:

  • Casual Gatherings: Its comfortable fit and modern design are ideal for daytime social events.
  • Work & Office: a polished yet relaxed choice for professional environments that appreciate contemporary style.
  • Travel & Leisure: Easy to wear and pack, perfect for sightseeing or relaxed evenings out on vacation.

Key Design Features

Silhouette: a relaxed two-layer shift: a shorter outer layer with a diagonal hem worn over a straight inner dress, both shaped with darts and joined at the neckline, armholes and center back.

Neckline: Classic round neckline that sits comfortably at the base of the throat.

Closure: Discreet invisible zipper closure centered at the back for a smooth, uninterrupted line.

Sleeves: Short set-in sleeves, stitched into both layers together.

Hem: The outer layer has an asymmetrical diagonal hem on the front and back, above the straight hem of the inner dress; the inner dress has a slit in the left side seam.

Back: Center back seam through both layers with the invisible zipper at the top; the outer back is cut asymmetrically as left and right pieces.

Length: Midi length, falling below the knee.

Level Of Difficulty

Intermediate. Requires skills in dart construction, invisible zipper insertion, accurate assembly of layered pattern pieces, and setting sleeves.
