Tech. Description

Sleeveless Scoop Neck Diagonal Panel Dress

A women's sleeveless A-line dress of about knee length, with a deep scoop neckline, a centre front panel edged with snap plackets that close over the side front pieces, and triangle gores set into the front with diagonal seams running down to the hem.

When To Wear

  • On its own in summer, in linen.
  • Over a thin top or T-shirt in spring and early autumn.

Key Design Features

Silhouette: Close to the body at the top, widening into an A-line towards the hem.

Length: About knee length.

Neckline: Deep scoop neckline bound with bias binding folded in half.

Sleeves: Sleeveless; armholes bound with the same bias binding.

Front: A centre front panel cut in one piece, edged on both sides with curved plackets that run from the shoulder to the hip. The plackets are interfaced, faced and understitched, and fasten to the side front pieces with 12 snaps, six on each side. The side fronts are held in the side seams and the neckline, and their lower edge is finished separately and topstitched 0.5 cm from the edge.

Skirt: Two triangle gores joined to the front panel, forming diagonal seams that meet near the centre of the hem; seams pressed towards the front.

Back: Centre back seam pressed open; side seams pressed towards the back.

Finishing: Overlocked seams; hem overlocked, turned up and topstitched; 1 cm seam allowances throughout.

Level Of Difficulty

Intermediate. Curved faced plackets, layered front pieces, bias-bound neckline and armholes, setting snaps.

Fabric Recommendations

Thin linen or linen blend fabrics.
