Tech. Description

Strappy Halter Midi Dress

A sleeveless women's midi dress with princess seams from the armholes on the front and back, a high round neckband joined to the bodice by four narrow straps at the front and four at the back, and an invisible zip in the centre back seam.

When To Wear

  • Summer evenings and warm-weather parties: the shoulders and upper back are open between the straps.
  • Weddings and dinners, with flat sandals or heels and a light wrap.

Key Design Features

Silhouette: Close-fitting through the bust and waist, falling straight to the hem.

Length: Midi, below the knee.

Neckline: A round neckband made from two layers of interfaced front and back neckline facings, understitched and topstitched 0.2 cm from the edge at the centre back. Eight straps, each folded and stitched 0.5 cm from the fold, hang from the lower edge of the band and are stitched to the bodice neckline after a fitting, so their length can be adjusted.

Sleeves: Sleeveless, cut away at the shoulders.

Front: Centre front panel in one piece and two side front panels; the princess seams are pressed towards the centre.

Back: Two middle back and two side back panels, a low curved back neckline and a centre back seam with an invisible zip in its upper part.

Finishing: Front neckline, back neckline and front armholes bound with bias tape folded in half and stitched 0.1 cm from its fold; hem overlocked, turned up 3 cm and topstitched.

Level Of Difficulty

Intermediate. Princess seams, bias binding of curved edges, a two-layer neckband with eight straps, an invisible zip and strap length set at a fitting.

Fabric Recommendations

Silk or blended fabric.

  3. Stitch and overlock the princess seams on the back. Press towards the center back.
  4. Stitch and overlock the side seams. Press the side seams towards the back.
