Tech. Description

Asymmetrical Flounce Skirt With Diagonal Trim

A women's skirt in light viscose or silk: a fitted upper part with darts and diagonal lower edges trimmed with lace, and two flounces set under the lace that fall to a pointed asymmetric hem. Faced waist, zip in the centre back seam.

When To Wear

  • In summer with a fitted top or a tucked-in blouse.
  • For warm evenings and parties with sandals or heeled shoes.

Key Design Features

Silhouette: Close-fitting over the hips; below the diagonal lace lines the flounces add volume and movement.

Length: Uneven hem, the longest point falling below the knee.

Waist: No waistband; the top edge is finished with an interfaced facing, understitched 0.2 cm from the seam. Darts on the front and both back pieces.

Closure: Zipper in the centre back seam.

Back: Left and right back pieces joined by a centre back seam, with the same diagonal lace lines as the front.

Skirt: The front and back pieces end in diagonal edges; lace trim is topstitched along these edges and a large and a small flounce are stitched in under it, forming crossing diagonals and pointed hem ends.

Finishing: Flounce edges overlocked and topstitched; facing ends turned under and slip-stitched by hand at the zipper.

Level Of Difficulty

Intermediate. Darts, a zipper set into a centre back seam, a faced waist, and lining up lace and flounces along diagonal edges in slippery light fabric.

Fabric Recommendations

Thin viscose or silk fabrics.
