Pattern #5200
Tech. Description

V-Neck Slip Dress with Sheer Insert

Introducing a women's sewing pattern for an elegant slip dress featuring a deep V-neckline, a sophisticated sheer insert, and delicate spaghetti straps.

When To Wear

This versatile slip dress is suitable for various occasions, offering both comfort and understated glamour:

  • Evening Events: Perfect for chic gatherings, cocktail parties, or romantic dinners.
  • Layered Styling: Ideal for layering under blazers, cardigans, or open shirts for a contemporary smart-casual look.
  • Luxurious Loungewear: Provides a comfortable yet stylish option for elegant at-home relaxation or as sophisticated nightwear.

Key Design Features

Silhouette: An A-line mini slip dress, gently flowing from the bust to an above-the-knee length.

Neckline: A flattering deep V-neckline at the front, accented by a triangular sheer insert for an elegant touch.

Straps: Delicate spaghetti straps provide a minimalist and sophisticated shoulder line.

Back: Features a subtle V-shaped neckline at the back, also incorporating a sheer insert for cohesive design.

Closure: A discreet invisible zipper closure is integrated into the left side seam for a smooth and seamless fit.

Hem: A simple, straight hemline completes the design.

Level Of Difficulty

Intermediate. Requires proficiency in working with delicate fabrics, attaching sheer inserts, precise bias binding application, and inserting a concealed zipper.

Fabric Recommendations

Choose lightweight, draping fabrics with a smooth finish for the main body, complemented by a sheer fabric for the inserts:

  • Lightweight dress fabrics from natural or blended fibers (e.g., silk, rayon, tencel, polyester blends)
  • Crepe de Chine
  • Organza (for the sheer inserts)

Additional Supplies

  • Zipper

Sewing Instructions

  1. Stitch the darts on the dress FRONT PANEL. Stitch the center BACK PANEL seam.
  2. Attach the inserts to the FRONT PANEL and BACK PANEL, placing them right sides together. Press the SEAM ALLOWANCES towards the main garment.
  3. Stitch the side seams, leaving an opening for the ZIPPER in the left side seam. Press the ZIPPER SEAM ALLOWANCES to the wrong side. Place the ZIPPER under the edges of the opening and stitch so that the teeth are not visible.
  4. Fold the BIAS BINDING in half lengthwise, right sides out, and press. Unfold the strip, fold the raw edges towards the fold to the wrong side, and fold the strip along this fold. Trim the SEAM ALLOWANCES at the top of the dress and armholes to 0.5 cm. Insert the upper raw edges into the finished neckline edge and topstitch 1 mm from the lower fold.
  5. Bind the armholes with BIAS BINDING starting from the side seam, across the BACK PANEL, forming a strap, across the FRONT PANEL, and ending at the side seam.
  6. Finish the bottom of the dress with a 1 cm hem.
