Tech. Description

Single-Breasted Peplum Jacket

Introducing a sophisticated women's sewing pattern for a single-breasted jacket, expertly tailored with a notched collar, fitted silhouette, waist seam at the back and a gently flared hip section.

When To Wear:

  • Professional Settings: Perfect for office wear, business meetings, or corporate events.
  • Formal & Semi-Formal Occasions: An elegant choice for dinners, presentations, or stylish daytime events.
  • Smart Casual Chic: Elevates a smart casual outfit, pairing well with skirts or tailored trousers.

Key Design Features

Silhouette: Tailored and fitted through the torso, with a defined waistline that transitions into a gently flared hip section (a separate lower back joined at the waist).

Collar & Lapel: Features a classic notched collar with lapels, the collar cut on the fold and made from an upper and an under collar.

Closure: Single-breasted front with a refined four-button closure.

Sleeves: Expertly crafted two-piece set-in sleeves ensure a smooth, tailored fit.

Back: An upper back and a lower back, each cut on the fold without a center back seam, joined by a horizontal waist seam and shaped with darts.

Length: Sits at a flattering hip length, accentuating the peplum detail.

Level Of Difficulty

Advanced. Requires confident tailoring skills including precise collar and lapel construction, multi-panel garment assembly, full lining integration, and neat buttonholes.

  2. Stitch the Side Fronts to the Center Fronts.
  3. Stitch the Lower Back to the Back.
  4. Stitch the side and shoulder seams.
  5. Place the two Collar pieces right sides together and stitch along the outer edge; trim, turn right side out and press.
  6. Place the Center Front Facings right sides together with the fronts and stitch along the front edges and lapels up to the collar attachment point. Clip the seam allowance at this point. Stitch the Back Neckline Facing to the upper ends of the Center Front Facings. Place the collar, raw edges open, between the jacket and the facings, with the under collar lying on the jacket. Stitch the upper collar to the neckline of the facings and the under collar to the jacket neckline. Clip the allowances on the curves several times. Press the seam allowances open. Turn the facings to the wrong side and press the edges. From the inside, stitch the collar seam allowances together along the back neckline.
  7. Turn the Center Front Facings back to the right side. Fold the hem allowance to the wrong side up to the front edges and sew it in place. Turn the facings to the wrong side again and sew them to the hem allowance.
  8. Stitch the sleeve seams. Stitch the seams of the Sleeve Hem Facings. Finish the sleeve hems with the facings. Clip the allowances and press. Set the sleeves into the armholes. Attach the shoulder pads.
  9. Stitch the seams of the lining. Stitch the front edges of the lining right sides together to the Center Front Facings, starting and finishing the seam about 8 cm from the bottom edge. Turn the lining into the jacket, wrong sides together. Turn under the raw edges of the lining and sew them to the hem allowances of the jacket and sleeves. Sew the remaining open front edges of the lining to the facings.
  10. Make buttonholes along the right front as marked. Sew on the buttons.
