Two-Tone Mock Neck Dress
Introducing a sophisticated two-tone knit dress pattern with a mock neck, an asymmetric vertical panel seam and a softly gathered side section, offering a modern and elegant A-line silhouette.
When To Wear
This versatile dress is perfect for a variety of settings, making it an excellent choice for:
- Office & Business Casual: Its polished design and comfortable fit make it ideal for professional environments.
- Everyday Elegance: a stylish and comfortable option for daily wear, from errands to informal gatherings.
- Semi-Formal Occasions: Easily dressed up with accessories for dinners, events, or social outings.
Key Design Features
Silhouette: a knee-to-midi length A-line dress with an asymmetric panel design.
Neckline: Features a comfortable and stylish mock neck (stand collar), cut from a folded strip of companion knit.
Front: An off-center vertical panel seam runs from the neckline to the hem. On one side, the upper front is joined by a horizontal seam to a gathered (or softly pleated) lower front, creating flattering volume. The upper front has a pleat laid along the marked line, and bust darts provide shaping.
Sleeves: Long set-in sleeves cut from the companion knit.
Back: Mirrors the front: an off-center vertical panel seam, a pleated upper back and a gathered lower back section.
Closure: a discreet hidden zipper is inserted into the right side seam for a seamless finish.
Length: Falls to just below the knee.
Level Of Difficulty
Intermediate. Requires skills in working with knit fabrics, inserting a hidden zipper, creating gathers, and constructing a stand collar.
Fabric Recommendations
For the main dress fabric, select knit materials with low stretch, and for the contrasting sections, choose knit fabrics with medium to high stretch, ensuring a harmonious drape and fit:
- Low-stretch knit fabrics made from natural or blended fibers (for main dress)
- Medium or high-stretch knit companion fabrics (for contrast sections like sleeves & collar)

Sewing Instructions
When stitching pieces, pay attention to the notches - they must match!
- Fuse interfacing to the Collar.
- Along the upper edge of the Lower Back, sew a line of stitching with loosened upper thread and gather. Alternatively, you can lay random pleats. Stitch the Upper Back and Lower Back together. Overlock the seam allowance.
- Along the upper edge of the Lower Front, sew a line of stitching with loosened upper thread and gather. Alternatively, you can lay random pleats. Stitch the Upper Front and Lower Front together. Overlock the seam allowance. Stitch the left side seam. Overlock the seam allowances and press towards the back. On the Upper Front and Upper Back, lay a pleat along the marked line and secure it with a stitch from the right side.
- Stitch the bust darts. Press the darts upwards.
- Stitch the front panel seam (Front to Upper Front/Lower Front). Overlock the seam allowance and press towards the Front.
- Stitch the back panel seam (Back to Upper Back/Lower Back). Overlock the seam allowance and press towards the Back.
- Overlock the right side seam edges separately. Stitch the right side seam from the armhole to the zipper mark and from the zipper mark to the hem. Insert the hidden zipper.
- Stitch the Collar into a loop, press the seam allowances open. Fold the Collar lengthwise in half, right side out, and press. Attach the Collar to the neckline; the Collar seam is shifted 2 cm towards the back from the shoulder seam. Overlock the seam allowances.
- Overlock the Sleeve seam edges separately. Stitch the Sleeve seam in two steps: from the armhole to the first mark and from the second mark to the bottom of the sleeve. Press the seam allowances open. Set the Sleeve into the armhole, matching notches. Overlock the seam allowance and press.
- Overlock the hem edges of the dress and sleeves, press them to the wrong side and topstitch.
