Fitted Dress with Lace Trim and Cuffs

Fabric & Materials

Fabric recommendations: dress fabrics made of natural or blended fibers, lace fabric. YOU WILL ALSO NEED: a concealed zipper, fusible interfacing.

CUTTER'S MUST

IF THE PATTERNS HAVE A DOUBLE CONTOUR, THEY INCLUDE SEAM ALLOWANCES. IF THE CONTOUR IS SINGLE, THE PATTERNS DO NOT INCLUDE SEAM ALLOWANCES. SEAM ALLOWANCES: all seams 1 cm; allowance along the back vent – 6 cm; allowance for dress hem – 2.0 cm. ATTENTION! FIRST OF ALL, PRINT OUT THE PAPER PATTERNS AND LAY THEM OUT ON THE FABRIC WIDTH (fabric width can be from 90cm to 150cm) TO DETERMINE HOW MUCH MATERIAL YOU WILL NEED (do not forget to consider paired and symmetrical parts).

  • Lower back part - 2 pieces
  • Central upper front part right - 1 piece

  • Lower front part right - 1 piece
  • Lower front part left - 1 piece
  • Sleeve - 2 pieces
  • Front facing right – 1 piece
  • Front facing left – 1 piece
  • Back neckline facing – 2 pieces
• From lace fabric:
  • Front trim – 1 piece
  • Cuff – 2 pieces
• From fusible interfacing:
  • Front facing right – 1 piece
  • Front facing left – 1 piece
  • Back neckline facing – 2 pieces

Sewing Instructions

WHEN STITCHING PIECES, PAY ATTENTION TO THE NOTCHES - THEY MUST MATCH! MARKINGS ON THE PATTERNS ARE MADE ON THE RIGHT SIDE!

1. Fuse interfacing to the designated pieces.
2. Stitch darts on the upper and lower back parts, press allowances towards the center.
3. Attach the lower back part to the upper back part, press allowances upwards and overcast.
4. On the left lower back part, trim 5 cm along the vertical edge of the vent. On both lower back parts, fuse interfacing to the vent from the wrong side. On the right side, mark the center seam line (vent fold line). Press the left part along the vent fold line, on the right part, press only the allowance of the right side of the vent (6 cm) to the wrong side. Align the pieces along the center seam and secure at the upper edge of the vent. Overcast the center back seam separately on each piece. Overcast the vent allowances. Stitch the center back seam from the zipper mark to the vent corner. Clip the corner of the vent seam allowance on the right part. Press the center seam allowances open, press the vent allowances and secure them on the right side with machine stitching. Insert the zipper.
5. Place the front trim on the right upper part and secure along the edges. Stitch the princess seams on the upper front pieces, press allowances towards the center and overcast.
6. Overcast the outer edge of the left facing. Place the left upper front part with the facing right sides together and stitch the neckline edge. Turn the piece to the right side, straighten, and press.
7. Place the right upper front part with the facing right sides together and stitch the neckline edge. Turn the piece to the right side, straighten, and press. Place the right upper part over the left and attach the left upper front part to the right facing. Press allowances, overcast.
8. Fuse interfacing to the vent allowance on the right lower panel. Press the vent to the wrong side along the marked line. Fuse interfacing to the corner of the lower left front part, carefully clip, stopping 0.1 cm before the corner. Overcast the vent allowance, press to the wrong side and topstitch.
9. Attach the lower right front to the left, tapering the stitching to the corner. Press allowances upwards and overcast. Secure the vent allowances together at the top from the wrong side.
10. Attach the lower front part to the upper part, press allowances upwards and overcast.
11. Overcast the outer edge of the back neckline facing. Place the back neckline facing with the main piece and stitch the neckline edge. The stitching should start and end strictly at the marked shoulder seam line. Clip allowances at curves.
12. Stitch shoulder seams, placing the front shoulder seam between the back shoulder seam and the facing. Press allowances and overcast. Turn the neckline facing to the wrong side, straighten, and press. Secure the center edges of the facing to the zipper tape.
13. Stitch side seams, press allowances towards the back and overcast.
14. Stitch the sleeve seam, press allowances towards the back and overcast. Set sleeves into armholes, matching notches. Press allowances and overcast.
15. Stitch the cuff into a loop, press allowances open. Fold the cuff with the sleeve wrong sides together and attach. Overcast allowances, fold the cuff down, and press.
16. Overcast the hem of the garment, press to the wrong side and hem with blind stitches.
