Sewing Instructions
- Fuse FUSIBLE INTERFACING to the FACINGS.
- Create and secure pleats on the BACK PANEL trim strip pieces. Place the main fabric pieces with the LINING right sides together and stitch the upper and lower edges. Turn the pieces right side out, smooth, and press.
- Stitch the waist darts on the upper and lower BACK PANEL pieces. Press the dart allowances towards the center of the pieces. Stitch the upper and lower BACK PANEL pieces together. Press SEAM ALLOWANCES upwards and serge.
- Place the BACK PANEL trim strip onto the BACK PANEL, securing along the SEAM ALLOWANCES. Stitch the center back seam, press the SEAM ALLOWANCES open, and serge.
- Create and secure pleats on the FRONT PANEL trim strip pieces. Place the main fabric pieces with the LINING right sides together and stitch the upper and lower edges. Turn one of the pieces right side out, smooth, and press. Insert one piece into the other, right sides together, and stitch the center seam. Turn the pieces right side out, smooth, and press.
- Stitch the waist darts on the lower FRONT PANEL piece. Press the dart allowances towards the center of the piece.
- Create and secure pleats on the upper FRONT PANEL piece. Stitch the upper and lower FRONT PANEL pieces together. Press SEAM ALLOWANCES downwards and serge. Place the FRONT PANEL trim strip onto the FRONT PANEL, securing along the SEAM ALLOWANCES.
- Stitch the shoulder seams, press SEAM ALLOWANCES towards the BACK PANEL and serge. Stitch the right side seams, press SEAM ALLOWANCES towards the BACK PANEL and serge. Serge the left side seams separately on each piece, stitch from the NOTCH to the bottom, press open. Insert the ZIPPER.
- Stitch the shoulder and right side seams of the FACINGS. Press SEAM ALLOWANCES open. Serge the side seams and the outer edge of the FACING. Place the dress with the FACING right sides together and stitch the neckline. Clip the SEAM ALLOWANCES at curves, turn the FACING out, smooth, and press. Stitch the armhole in two steps: first the BACK PANEL, then the FRONT PANEL. Clip the SEAM ALLOWANCES at curves, turn out, and press. Secure the FACING to the garment along the side SEAM ALLOWANCES. Attach the FACING to the ZIPPER tape.
- Serge the bottom edge of the dress, press to the wrong side, and hem with blind stitches.
