Tech. Description

Paneled Back Button Blouse with Contrast Bow

A charming women's blouse pattern featuring a paneled bodice, petal sleeves, and an elegant back button closure, finished with a playful contrast bow at the front hem.

When To Wear

This versatile blouse is perfect for adding a touch of tailored charm to various occasions:

  • Everyday Elegance: Ideal for refined daily wear or smart casual office settings.
  • Casual Gatherings: a stylish choice for brunches, luncheons, or relaxed social events.
  • Special Occasions: Elevate your look for semi-formal events or when a chic, sophisticated top is desired.

Key Design Features

Silhouette: a close-fitting, hip-length silhouette shaped by vertical panel seams on the front and back.

Neckline: a classic round neckline finished with contrast bias binding.

Closure: a full-length back button placket with seven buttons for a sophisticated and clean finish.

Sleeves: Short petal (tulip) sleeves made of two overlapping parts, front and back, with bound edges, offering graceful shoulder coverage.

Details: a charming contrast bow placed at the front hem over a short bound slit in the left front panel seam, adding a touch of personality and visual interest. Contrast bias binding finishes the neckline, the hem and the sleeve edges, providing a neat and decorative edge.

Back: Features panel seams for a contoured fit, combined with the center back button placket cut in one with the back.

Level Of Difficulty

Intermediate. This pattern requires skills in working with shaping seams, creating and applying bias binding, constructing a back button placket, and forming a decorative bow.

Fabric Recommendations

Select fabrics with a slight structure or drape that will hold the garment's shape beautifully:

    • Side Right Front – 1 piece
    • Center Front – 1 piece
    • Back Sleeve – 2 pieces
    • Front Sleeve – 2 pieces
  • From contrast fabric:

Sewing Instructions

  1. Stitch the panel seams on the back (Center Back to Side Back), press seam allowances towards the center and overlock.
  2. Stitch the right panel seam of the front (Center Front to Side Right Front), press seam allowances towards the center and overlock.
  3. Stitch the side and shoulder seams, press seam allowances towards the back and overlock.
  4. Bind the bottom edge of the garment up to the mark on the panel seam of the front. Stitch the left panel seam of the front (Center Front to Side Left Front) above the mark, press seam allowances towards the center and overlock.
  5. Bind the neckline edge. Press the cut-on placket of the Center Back to the wrong side, fold the edge 1 cm inwards and topstitch.
  6. Stitch the underarm seams of the sleeve parts, press the seam allowances and overlock. Bind the lower edges of the sleeve. Place the Back Sleeve over the Front Sleeve, aligning the notches, and secure along the top edge. Set the sleeves into the armholes, press seam allowances and overlock.
  7. On the right placket, make buttonholes; on the left, sew on buttons.
  8. Fold the Strap in half lengthwise, right sides together, and stitch along the long side. Turn right side out, centering the seam, and overlock the short sides. Fold the Bow in half lengthwise, right sides together, and stitch along three sides, leaving an opening for turning. Trim seam allowances and turn right side out. Close the opening with invisible stitches. Form the bow, wrap the Strap around its center, and stitch the bow onto the blouse as shown in the technical drawing.
