Sewing Instructions
- Stitch the waist darts on the upper and lower back panels. Press the darts towards the center of the pieces. Stitch the upper and lower back panels together. Press seam allowances downwards and serge.
- Serge the center back edge of each piece separately. Stitch the center back seam from the zipper mark to the bottom. Press the seam allowances open, pressing the zipper opening allowances as well. Insert the zipper.
- Stitch the waist darts on the lower front. Press the darts towards the center of the piece.
- Fold the Front Inset in half crosswise, wrong sides together, and press.
- Fold and baste the pleats on the upper front pieces. Place the Center Front Facings on the upper fronts, right sides together, and stitch the center edges. Turn the facings to the wrong side, place the upper fronts over the Front Inset and baste along the outer edge of the facings. Serge the outer edge of the facings together with the inset.
- Stitch the upper and lower front panels together. Press seam allowances downwards and serge.
- Stitch the side and shoulder seams, press seam allowances towards the back and serge.
- Stitch the shoulder and side seams of the facings. Press seam allowances open. Serge the center back edges and the outer edge of the facings. Attach the Front Neckline Facing to the Center Front Facing. Place the dress with the facing right sides together and stitch the neckline. Clip the seam allowances at curves, turn the facing out, straighten, and press. Stitch the armholes in two steps: first the back, then the front. Clip the seam allowances at curves, turn out, and press. Secure the facing to the garment along the side seam allowances. Attach the facing to the zipper tape.
- Serge the bottom edge of the dress, press to the wrong side, and topstitch.
