Draped Waist Cap Sleeve Pleated Dress

Introducing a sophisticated dress pattern featuring an asymmetric pleated bodice with a cascading flounce and decorative flower at the waist, elegant cap sleeves, and a softly flared skirt.

When To Wear

This charming dress is perfect for occasions demanding a refined yet stylish ensemble, making it an excellent choice for:

  • Cocktail Parties & Semi-Formal Events: An elegant option for social gatherings and receptions.
  • Weddings & Celebrations: Ideal for guests attending ceremonies or celebratory brunches.
  • Special Occasions: a chic and comfortable choice for any event where you wish to look polished and distinguished.

Key Design Features

Silhouette: a classic fit-and-flare silhouette, shaped through the bodice with princess seams and a waist seam, with a flowing flared skirt.

Neckline: a wide, subtly curved boat neckline finished with facings.

Closure: a discreet invisible zipper at the center back for a smooth, uninterrupted line.

Sleeves: Short cap sleeves set into the upper armhole; the lower armhole is finished with bias binding.

Waist: Asymmetric pleats on the front bodice and a pleated flounce, set into the left side seam, that is tacked at the front waist under a decorative flower and falls in a cascade.

Skirt: a flared skirt that falls in soft, even folds from the waist seam, creating graceful movement and fullness.

Length: a versatile knee-length hemline, offering a refined and classic appeal.

Back: Princess seams on the upper back, a waist seam and a center back seam with an invisible zipper.

Level Of Difficulty

Intermediate. This pattern requires skills in invisible zipper insertion, precise pleat formation, and working with draped details.

Fabric Recommendations

Choose double-sided fabrics (the flounce shows both sides) with an elegant drape to best showcase the design's features:

  • Double-sided dress fabrics of natural or blended fibers

Additional Supplies

  • Fusible interfacing
  • Invisible zipper
  • Decorative flower
  • Bias binding, 4 cm wide (or cut from fabric)

Cutter's Must

If the patterns have a double contour, they include seam allowances. If the contour is single, the patterns do not include seam allowances. Seam allowances: all seams 1 cm; dress hem and sleeve hem allowance 1.2 cm. Attention! First, print out the paper patterns and lay them out on the fabric width (fabric width can be from 90 cm to 150 cm) to determine how much material you will need (do not forget to account for paired and symmetrical pieces). The labels on the pattern pieces are written on the right side of the fabric!
