Cutter's Must
- From Main Fabric 1:
- Front Skirt – 1 piece on the fold
- Back Skirt – 1 piece on the fold
- Side – 2 pieces
- From Main Fabric 2 (contrast):
- Skirt Waistband – 1 piece
- Decorative Belt – 1 piece
- Pocket Lining – 2 pieces
- Belt Loops – 1 piece
- From fusible interfacing:
- Skirt Waistband – 1 piece; also the flap area of the Pocket Lining
Sewing Instructions
- Fuse interfacing to the Skirt Waistband. Fuse the Pocket Lining in the area of the decorative flap.
- Place the Pocket Lining on the Front Skirt, right sides together, and stitch along the straight (pocket opening) edges. Clip the allowance at the corner and turn the lining to the wrong side. Stitch the Side piece to the Pocket Lining along the pocket bag edge and overlock the allowance. Fold the decorative flap out onto the skirt. Matching the notches, baste the pocket lining to the side and upper edges.
- Stitch the right side seam. Overlock and press open the seam allowances.
- Stitch the left side seam from the notch for the zipper to the hem. Press open the seam allowances. Insert the zipper. Overlock one long edge of the Belt Loops strip. Fold the other long edge inwards and press. Fold the overlocked edge over it and stitch two parallel lines to secure. Cut the strip into belt loops of the required length.
- Attach the outer side of the waistband to the upper edge of the skirt, inserting the belt loops. Stitch the ends of the waistband, trim the seam allowances at the corners and turn out. Fold under the inner edge of the waistband and topstitch it in the ditch of the waistband seam. Press the waistband when finished.
- Overlock the lower edge of the skirt, press to the wrong side and topstitch.
- Fold the Decorative Belt in half lengthwise, right sides together, and stitch along the edges, leaving an opening for turning. Trim the seam allowances at the corners and turn to the right side. Sew the opening closed. Press the belt.
- Mark and make a buttonhole (on the waistband). Sew on the button.
