Princess Seam Color-Block Knit Dress

Fabric & Materials

Fabric recommendations: medium-stretch knit fabric in two colors, made from natural or blended fibers. You will also need: knit bias tape.

CUTTER'S MUST

If the patterns have a double contour, they include seam allowances; if the contour is single, the patterns do not include seam allowances. Seam allowances: hem allowance for dress and sleeve bottom – 2 cm, other seams 0.7 cm. Attention! First, print out the paper patterns and lay them out on the fabric width (fabric width can be from 90cm to 150cm) to determine how much material you will need (don't forget to account for paired and symmetrical pieces).

• From main fabric 1:
  • Center front part - 1 piece on fold
  • Center back part – 2 pieces
  • Sleeve - 2 pieces
• From main fabric 2:
  • Side front part - 2 pieces
  • Side back part - 2 pieces

Sewing Instructions

When stitching pieces, pay attention to the notches - they must match!

1. Stitch the princess seams on the front and back. Overlock the seams and press them towards the center of the front and back respectively.
2. Stitch the center back seam. Overlock the allowance and press it to the left side.
3. Stitch the right shoulder seam. Press the seams towards the back and overlock.
4. Cut a bias tape equal to the length of the neckline. Fold the bias tape in half lengthwise, right side out, and press. Place the bias tape along the neckline edge on the right side and stitch, fold the bias tape to the wrong side, clip the seams, and topstitch along the fold onto the main piece. Press the seam. Stitch the left shoulder seam. Overlock the allowance.
5. Overlock the sleeve hem, fold it inwards, and topstitch. Set the sleeve into the armhole, matching the notches. Fold the bias tape in half lengthwise, right side out, and press. Place the bias tape along the armhole edge on the right side and stitch, fold the bias tape to the wrong side, clip the seams, and topstitch along the fold onto the main piece. Press the seam.
6. Stitch the side seams. Overlock the allowances and press them towards the back.
7. Press the dress hem allowance to the wrong side, overlock, and topstitch.
