Pattern #4104
Tech. Description

Elasticized Gathered Silk Bolero

Presenting a chic, made-to-measure bolero pattern featuring elasticized gathering at the neckline and short puff sleeves for a sophisticated silhouette.

When To Wear

This elegant bolero offers a stylish layering option for various formal and semi-formal occasions:

  • Formal Events & Weddings: Provides graceful coverage over sleeveless or strapless dresses for special celebrations.
  • Evening Wear: a luxurious and lightweight addition to elevate an evening gown or sophisticated ensemble.
  • Dressy Outings: Adds a touch of refined glamour to smart-casual or semi-formal daytime outfits.

Key Design Features

Silhouette: a cropped, open-front bolero designed to sit gracefully over the shoulders and upper back.

Neckline / Back: Features an elasticized, gathered band that creates a subtle stand collar effect at the back neck, extending over the shoulders.

Sleeves: Short, voluminous puff sleeves with elasticized cuffs, adding a touch of romantic charm.

Length: a very short, shrug-style length, finishing just above the natural waist.

Level Of Difficulty

Intermediate. Involves precise gathering techniques, elastic insertion, and careful attachment of a neck/back band.

Fabric Recommendations

For a luxurious drape and elegant finish, consider fabrics such as:

  • Silk satin fabrics made from natural or blended fibers

Additional Supplies

  • Elastic tape, 3 cm wide (approximate length specified on pattern piece)
  • Elastic tape, 0.5 cm wide

Cutter's Must

If the patterns have a double contour, seam allowances are included. If the contour is single, the patterns do not include seam allowances. Seam allowances: all seams 1 cm, sleeve hem – 2 cm. Attention! First, print out the paper patterns and lay them out on the fabric width (fabric width can be from 90 cm to 150 cm) to determine how much material you will need (do not forget to account for paired and symmetrical pieces).

  • From main fabric:
    • Back – 1 piece
    • Sleeve – 2 pieces
    • Placket – 1 piece

Sewing Instructions

When stitching pieces, pay attention to the notches - they must match!

  1. Stitch the sleeve seam. Finish the allowance and press it towards the back. Fold the sleeve hem twice by 1 cm and topstitch, leaving an opening for the elastic. Insert the elastic and secure the ends.
  2. Set the back of the sleeve into the back armhole. Finish the allowances and press them towards the sleeve.
  3. Along the upper edge of the back and the front of the sleeve, sew a row of stitches with loosely tensioned stitches and gather.
  4. Stitch the placket into a loop. Fold the placket in half lengthwise and press. Secure the ends of the elastic. Insert the elastic into the placket. Pin the placket to the bolero, stretching the elastic. Attach the placket (the placket seam is located at the left side seam). Finish the placket attachment seam.
