Pattern #2884
Tech. Description

Blouse with Front Pleats

Introducing a women's sewing pattern for an elegant blouse featuring a chic V-neck, a gracefully fitted waistline with refined front pleats, and voluminous gathered sleeves.

When To Wear

This versatile blouse is perfect for a range of settings, making it an excellent choice for:

  • Professional Chic: Ideal for office wear or smart business meetings when paired with tailored trousers or skirts.
  • Smart Casual Outings: Elevate everyday wear for brunches, lunches, or relaxed social gatherings.
  • Elegant Evenings: a sophisticated option for dinner dates or semi-formal events, offering refined style.

Key Design Features

Silhouette: Fitted through the bust and waist, with the front pleats released below the waist into a soft, flattering flare.

Neckline: a graceful V-neckline offering a flattering and elegant silhouette.

Waist: a defined, fitted waistline shaped with elegant front pleats and subtle elasticized shirring at the back for comfort.

Sleeves: Long, voluminous sleeves featuring delicate gathering at the sleeve cap and an elasticated casing at the wrist for a chic balloon effect.

Closure: Pullover design with no visible closure, creating a clean and seamless front.

Level Of Difficulty

Intermediate. Requires precision in forming front pleats, working with elastic thread for back shirring, and carefully setting gathered sleeves.

Fabric Recommendations

Choose light to medium-weight blouse fabrics with good drape to best showcase the design's features:

  • Blouse fabrics made from natural or blended fibers

Additional Supplies

  • Fusible interfacing
  • Elastic thread
  • Elastic tape

Cutter's Must

If the patterns have a double contour, seam allowances are included. If the contour is single, seam allowances are not included. Seam allowances: all seams 1 cm; hem allowance for garment bottom and sleeve bottom – 2.0 cm. Attention! First, print out the paper patterns and lay them out on the fabric width (fabric width can be from 90cm to 150cm) to determine how much material you will need (do not forget to account for paired and symmetrical pieces). When stitching pieces, pay attention to the notches - they must match!

  • From main fabric:
    • Back – 1 piece (on fold)
    • Front – 1 piece (on fold)
    • Sleeve – 2 pieces
    • Back Neckline Facing – 1 piece
    • Front Neckline Facing – 1 piece
  • From fusible interfacing:
    • Back Neckline Facing – 1 piece
    • Front Neckline Facing – 1 piece

Sewing Instructions

  1. Fuse interfacing to the designated pieces.
  2. Fold and stitch the pleats on the Front according to the markings, press the pleat depths open.
  3. On the Back, stitch rows according to the markings using elastic thread.
  4. Stitch shoulder and side seams, press allowances towards the back and overlock.
  5. Stitch the shoulder seams of the Back Neckline Facing and Front Neckline Facing, press allowances open. Overlock the outer edge. Place facings with the garment right sides together and stitch around the back and front neckline. Clip the allowances at the curves and at the corner, turn the facing to the wrong side, straighten, press. Secure to the garment at the shoulder seams.
  6. Stitch the sleeve seam, press the allowances towards the back of the sleeve and overlock. Overlock the sleeve hem allowance, fold to the wrong side and stitch, forming a casing. Insert elastic tape into the casing, adjust length and stitch ends.
  7. Along the upper edge of the sleeve, stitch with loosened upper thread and gather. Set sleeves into armholes, matching notches, press allowances and overlock.
  8. Overlock the hem allowance of the garment bottom, press to the wrong side and stitch.
