Fabric & Materials

Fabric recommendations: suiting fabrics made from natural or blended fibers. YOU WILL ALSO NEED: fusible interfacing; concealed zipper; 6 buttons. IF THE PATTERNS HAVE A DOUBLE CONTOUR, SEAM ALLOWANCES ARE INCLUDED. IF THE CONTOUR IS SINGLE, SEAM ALLOWANCES ARE NOT INCLUDED. SEAM ALLOWANCES: all seams 1 cm; hem allowance – 2 cm. ATTENTION! FIRST, PRINT OUT THE PAPER PATTERNS AND LAY THEM OUT ON THE FABRIC WIDTH (fabric width can be from 90cm to 150cm) TO DETERMINE HOW MUCH MATERIAL YOU WILL NEED (do not forget to account for paired and symmetrical pieces).

WHEN STITCHING PIECES, PAY ATTENTION TO THE NOTCHES - THEY MUST MATCH!

  • From main fabric:
    • Center back part - 2 pieces
    • Side back part - 2 pieces
    • Center front part - 1 piece on fold
    • Side front part - 2 pieces
    • Lower back part – 1 piece on fold
    • Lower front part – 1 piece on fold
    • Back facing – 2 pieces
    • Front facing – 1 piece
    • Strap – 2 pieces
  • From fusible interfacing:
    • Back facing – 2 pieces
    • Front facing – 1 piece

Sewing Instructions

  1. Fuse interfacing to facing pieces.
  2. Stitch the back princess seams, press allowances towards the center, serge.
  3. Serge the center back edges separately on each piece. Stitch the center back seam from the zipper mark to the bottom edge, press allowances open. Insert the concealed zipper.
  4. On the lower back part, create and secure inverted pleats. Stitch the upper and lower back parts, press allowances downwards, serge.
  5. Stitch the front princess seams, press allowances towards the center, serge.
  6. On the lower front part, create and secure inverted pleats. Stitch the upper and lower front parts, press allowances upwards, serge.
  7. Stitch the side seams, press allowances towards the back and serge.
  8. Stitch the side seams of the facings, press allowances open. Serge the bottom edge. Place the facing right sides together with the garment and stitch the front neckline edge, upper back edge, and armholes, leaving the front shoulder seam area unstitched. Clip allowances at curves, turn facings to the wrong side and press. Secure to side seams and zipper tape.
  9. Fold the strap in half lengthwise right sides together and stitch along the long edge. Turn the piece right side out, straighten and press. Turn in the front shoulder seam allowances of the bodice and facing, insert the strap into the opening and topstitch.
  10. Serge the hem allowance, press to the wrong side and topstitch.
  11. Put on the sundress, adjust the length of the straps. Serge the bottom edges and secure them to the back.
  12. Sew decorative buttons onto the front.
