Tech. Description

Pleated V-Neck Blouse

An elegant blouse pattern featuring graceful shoulder pleats that frame a distinctive overlapping V-neckline.

When To Wear

This versatile blouse is perfect for occasions where polished sophistication meets comfort, making it an ideal choice for:

  • Professional Settings: Ideal for the office or business meetings, offering a polished yet comfortable look.
  • Smart Casual Events: Perfect for brunches, dinners, or semi-formal gatherings where refined style is desired.
  • Everyday Elegance: Elevates daily wear with its sophisticated design and luxurious drape.

Key Design Features

Silhouette: a relaxed-fit blouse with subtle shaping for a comfortable yet elegant drape.

Neckline: Distinctive overlapping V-neckline, framed by gracefully draped pleats originating from the shoulder.

Closure: No front opening: the faced front edges overlap right over left and are topstitched closed below the V for a clean finish (pull-on style). Each cuff closes with a single button.

Sleeves: Long set-in sleeves with a pleat at the wrist and a bias-bound slit, finished with buttoned cuffs.

Back: Clean back with a smooth line, designed for elegance and simplicity.

Hem: Gently curved hemline, allowing for a versatile untucked or tucked styling.

Level Of Difficulty

Intermediate. Requires accurate pleat formation, precise faced V-neck and overlapping front construction, and neat cuff & sleeve slit application.

Fabric Recommendations

Achieve a beautiful drape and finish with blouse fabrics that have some fluidity:

  • Blouse fabrics made from natural or blended fibers with added elastane

Additional Supplies

  • Fusible interfacing
  • 2 buttons

Cutter's Must

Seam allowances: all seams 1 cm. Hem allowance – 1.2 cm. Attention! First, print out the paper patterns and lay them out on the fabric width (fabric width can be from 90cm to 150cm) to determine how much material you will need (don't forget to account for paired and symmetrical pieces). When stitching pieces, pay attention to the notches - they must match!

  • From main fabric:
    • Back – 1 piece on fold
    • Front – 2 pieces
    • Sleeve – 2 pieces
    • Cuff – 2 pieces
    • Center Front Facing – 2 pieces
    • Back Neckline Facing – 1 piece
  • From fusible interfacing:
    • Cuff – 2 pieces
    • Center Front Facing – 2 pieces
    • Back Neckline Facing – 1 piece

Sewing Instructions

  1. Fuse interfacing to the Cuffs, Center Front Facings and Back Neckline Facing.
  2. Form and secure the pleats at the shoulder edges of the Front pieces. Stitch the shoulder seams, press allowances towards the back, serge.
  3. Stitch the shoulder seams of the Center Front Facings and Back Neckline Facing, clip and press allowances open. Serge the outer edge. Place the facings onto the right side of the garment and stitch the right front edge from the center back to the hem. Stitch the left front edge from the center back to the mark, clip allowances at the mark. Clip allowances at curves, turn the facings to the wrong side and press. Serge the allowances of the left front edge from the mark to the hem.
  4. Overlap the right front over the left and topstitch along the right front edge from the vertical mark to the hem. Topstitch from the vertical mark of the right front edge, along the neckline, and along the left front edge.
  5. Stitch the side seams, press allowances towards the back, serge.
  6. Cut the sleeve slit along the marked line. Cut a bias binding from the main fabric, 4 cm wide and a length equal to twice the slit length + 4 cm. Fold the binding in half lengthwise and press. Press the outer allowances towards the center. Finish the sleeve slit with bias binding. Create and secure a pleat on the sleeve. The depth is directed away from the closure.
  7. Stitch the sleeve seam, press allowances towards the back and serge. Set the sleeves into the armholes, press allowances and serge.
  8. Fold each Cuff in half lengthwise, right sides together, and stitch the short ends. Start and end the stitching precisely at the marked cuff attachment seam line. Turn the piece right side out, press. Attach the outer side of the cuff to the sleeve, fold the allowance of the inner side of the cuff inwards and topstitch into the seam of the outer cuff attachment.
  9. Serge the bottom edge of the garment, press towards the wrong side and topstitch.
  10. Make buttonholes and sew buttons on the cuffs.
