Tailored Collared Button-Up Shirt

Featuring a striking asymmetrical neckline with a diagonal shirt collar and a button opening that runs along the left shoulder and sleeve, this relaxed shirt offers a sophisticated and contemporary silhouette.

When To Wear

This statement blouse is designed for versatile styling, making it an excellent choice for:

  • Smart Casual & Office: Its refined yet modern cut is suitable for professional settings that welcome unique fashion.
  • Evening & Social Gatherings: The elegant asymmetrical collar and soft drape are perfect for dinners, parties, or cultural events.
  • Creative & Fashion-Forward Styling: a distinctive piece that pairs beautifully with tailored trousers or skirts for a sophisticated, individual look.

Key Design Features

Silhouette: Relaxed fit with a slightly cropped length; front and back are each cut as one asymmetrical piece.

Neckline & Collar: Distinctive asymmetrical neckline finished with a collar on a stand that runs diagonally from the right side of the neck towards the left shoulder.

Closure: Buttoned opening along the left shoulder and the top of the left sleeve, worked on cut-in-one plackets, plus buttons on the collar stand.

Sleeves: Asymmetrical long sleeves: the left sleeve is cut in one with the front and back, the right sleeve is a separate dropped-shoulder piece; both end in buttoned cuffs with a small slit.

Hem: Straight hemline at a slightly cropped length.

Level Of Difficulty

Intermediate. Requires confident sewing skills, including precise construction of the asymmetrical collar with stand, the buttoned shoulder-and-sleeve plackets, and cuff application.

Fabric Recommendations

Choose light to medium-weight blouse fabrics with good drape to best highlight the shirt's sophisticated silhouette:

  • Blouse fabrics made from natural fibers (e.g., silk, cotton voile, fine linen blends)
  • Blouse fabrics made from blended fibers (e.g., silk blends, rayon challis, polyester satin)

Additional Supplies

  • Fusible interfacing
  • 10 buttons

Cutter's Must

If the patterns have a double contour, seam allowances are included. If the contour is single, seam allowances are not included. Seam allowances: all seams 1 cm. Hem allowance – 2 cm. Attention! First, print out the paper patterns and lay them out on the fabric width (fabric width can be from 90cm to 150cm) to determine how much material you will need (do not forget to account for paired and symmetrical pieces). When stitching pieces, pay attention to the notches - they must match! Attention! Markings on the patterns are on the right side!

  • From main fabric:
    • Back – 1 piece
    • Front – 1 piece
    • Right Sleeve – 1 piece
    • Collar – 2 pieces
    • Stand Collar – 2 pieces
    • Cuff – 2 pieces
  • From fusible interfacing:
    • Stand Collar – 1 piece
    • Collar – 1 piece
    • Cuff – 2 pieces

Sewing Instructions

  1. Interface the pieces with fusible interfacing. Also interface the cut-in-one plackets of the left sleeve.
  2. Press the cut-in-one placket of the left sleeve to the wrong side, fold the allowance inwards and topstitch 0.1 cm from the fold. Lay the front part of the left sleeve over the back part, aligning the buttonhole lines, and secure along the bottom edge.
  3. Stitch the right shoulder seam, press allowances towards the back and overlock. Attach the Right Sleeve to the main garment, press allowances upwards and overlock.
  4. Place the Collar pieces right sides together, stitch the ends and the outer edge. Trim allowances at corners, turn the collar right side out, straighten and press. Place the Stand Collar pieces right sides together, insert the finished collar between them and stitch, simultaneously stitching the ends of the collar stand. Start and end the stitching strictly at the marked line of the collar stand attachment seam. Turn the finished collar right side out and press. Attach the outer collar stand to the neckline, fold under the open edge of the inner collar stand and topstitch into the attachment seam.
  5. Overlock the side edges and underarm sleeve edges separately on each piece. Stitch the side seams together with the underarm sleeve seams, from the slit mark to the hem. Press allowances open. Topstitch the slit 0.1 cm from the edge.
  6. Fold the cuff in half lengthwise right sides together and stitch the side edges. Turn the piece right side out, press. Attach the outer side of the cuff to the sleeve, fold the allowance of the inner side of the cuff inwards and topstitch into the attachment seam of the outer cuff.
  7. Overlock the bottom edge of the garment, press to the wrong side and topstitch.
  8. Make buttonholes and sew on buttons on the plackets and collar stand. Make buttonholes and sew on buttons on the cuffs.
