Tech. Description

Simple Knit Top With Sleeves

Introduce an elegant and comfortable knit top sewing pattern, featuring distinctive raglan sleeves and gathered elasticated finishes at the hem and cuffs.

When To Wear

This versatile top offers a blend of comfort and style, making it suitable for:

  • Everyday Elegance: Perfect for creating a polished yet comfortable look for daily wear.
  • Casual Smart Occasions: Ideal for social gatherings, relaxed office environments, or weekend outings.
  • Transitional Styling: A great layering piece that easily transitions between seasons or different levels of formality.

Key Design Features

Silhouette: Relaxed, blouson-style fit with volume created by gathered details.

Neckline: Gentle round neckline.

Sleeves: Distinctive raglan sleeves cut to approximately 3/4 length, finished with elasticized, gathered cuffs.

Hem: An elasticated hem cinches the garment at the waist, creating a stylish blouson effect.

Back: A clean, simple back panel mirrors the front's relaxed drape, maintaining a cohesive silhouette.

Level Of Difficulty

Intermediate. This pattern requires experience with knit fabrics, including sewing with stretch stitches or an overlocker, and creating elasticated casings.

Fabric Recommendations

Choose knit fabrics with a low degree of stretch that drape well:

  • Jersey (e.g., silk jersey, viscose jersey)
  • Interlock knit
  • Lightweight knit blends (natural or synthetic)
  • Knit fabrics with a satin or matte finish for added elegance

Additional Supplies

  • Elastic tape, 1 cm wide

Fabric & Materials

Fabric recommendations: low-stretch knit fabric made from natural or blended fibers. YOU WILL ALSO NEED: elastic tape 1 cm wide.

CUTTER'S MUST

IF THE PATTERNS HAVE A DOUBLE CONTOUR, SEAM ALLOWANCES ARE INCLUDED. IF THE CONTOUR IS SINGLE, THE PATTERNS ARE WITHOUT SEAM ALLOWANCES. SEAM ALLOWANCES: Hem allowance for the bottom of the garment and sleeve hem – 1.5 cm; neckline allowance for back, front, and sleeve – 1.5 cm. Other allowances – 0.7 cm. ATTENTION! FIRST, PRINT OUT THE PAPER PATTERNS AND LAY THEM OUT ON THE FABRIC WIDTH (fabric width can be from 90 cm to 150 cm) TO DETERMINE HOW MUCH MATERIAL YOU WILL NEED. WHEN STITCHING PIECES, PAY ATTENTION TO THE NOTCHES - THEY MUST MATCH!

  • From main fabric:
    • Back – 1 piece
    • Front – 1 piece
    • Sleeve – 2 pieces

Tip: Knit fabric pieces are stitched with a special elastic or narrow zigzag stitch. The hem allowance is topstitched with a twin needle to maintain elasticity. You can also stitch pieces directly on a 3- or 4-thread overlocker.

Sewing Instructions

  1. Attach sleeves to the front, press allowances towards the front and overcast. Attach the right sleeve to the back, press allowances towards the back and overcast.
  2. Overcast the neckline edge, press to the wrong side and topstitch.
  3. Attach the left sleeve to the back, press allowances towards the back and overcast. Place a bartack at the neckline. Stitch the lower edges of the sleeve and side edges in one seam. Press seam allowances and overcast.
  4. Overcast the bottom edge of the garment and the bottom edge of the sleeve. Press allowances to the wrong side and topstitch, forming casings. Thread elastic tape through the casings and secure the ends.
