Short Sleeve Raglan T-shirt with Topstitching

Introducing a versatile men's sewing pattern for a comfortable short-sleeve T-shirt, distinguished by its athletic raglan sleeve construction and visible decorative topstitching.

When To Wear

This T-shirt is designed for everyday comfort and casual styling, making it an ideal choice for:

  • Casual Everyday Wear: Perfect for a relaxed yet put-together look for daily activities.
  • Active & Sporty Outfits: The raglan sleeves provide ease of movement, suitable for light activities or athleisure styling.
  • Layering Essential: An excellent base layer or standalone top for various casual ensembles.

Key Design Features

Silhouette: Relaxed, straight-cut fit through the body, offering comfort and ease.

Neckline: Classic crew neck finished with a neat, narrow band.

Sleeves: Short raglan sleeves, extending in one piece from the underarm to the neckline, providing a distinctive look and comfortable fit.

Details: Visible topstitching defines the raglan seams, neckline band, and hems, adding a sporty and polished finish.

Hem: Straight hem on both the main body and sleeve cuffs, finished with durable topstitching.

Back: Clean and plain back panel, maintaining the simple, casual aesthetic.

Level Of Difficulty

Intermediate. Requires familiarity with sewing knit fabrics and executing stretch stitches for durable and flexible seams, as well as neat topstitching techniques.

Fabric Recommendations

Choose medium-weight knit fabrics with good recovery and a comfortable drape:

  • Jersey knits
  • Interlock knits
  • French Terry

Additional Supplies

No additional notions are required.

Cutter's Must

  • Main fabric:
  • Front - 1 qty
  • Back - 1 qty
  • Yoke - 2 qty
  • Front sleeve - 2 qty
  • Back sleeve - 2 qty
  • Collar - 1 qty

Tip: To ensure the fabric remains stretchy in the areas of the finished seams, stitch the cut pieces with a narrow zigzag stitch or a special stretch stitch. To keep the bottom edge stretchy, the hem should be overlocked with an overlock stitch, and then stitched using a twin needle. The same applies to finishing other edges of the garment that should not lose elasticity. These recommendations do not apply to industrial production.

Sewing Instructions

  1. Assemble the top. Attach the front SLEEVEs to the front. Attach the yoke to the front. Attach the back SLEEVEs to the back. Stitch the shoulder seam allowances. Stitch the side seams and the sleeve seams.
  2. Stitch the collar into a ring. Fold in half. Insert the collar into the neckline, stretching the collar edge and positioning the collar seam at the left shoulder seam. Topstitch the collar insertion seam with a stretch stitch.
  3. Overlock and press up the hem of the bottom and SLEEVEs. Topstitch the bottom of the garment and the bottom of the SLEEVEs.
  4. Press the finished T-shirt.
