Tip: To ensure the fabric remains stretchy in the areas with seams, stitch the cut pieces with a narrow zigzag or a special stretch stitch. To keep the bottom edge stretchy, overlock the hem with an overlock stitch, then attach it using a twin needle. This also applies to finishing other edges of the garment that should not lose elasticity. These recommendations do not apply to industrial production.
Sewing Instructions
- Assemble the top. Attach the inserts to the front. Topstitch the inserts. Attach the inserts to the back. Topstitch. Attach the inserts to the sleeves. Topstitch the sleeves. Stitch the shoulder seam allowances. Set the sleeves into the open armholes. Topstitch the sleeve setting seam allowances along the armholes. Stitch the side seam allowances and sleeve seam allowances, leaving the slit areas unstitched.
- Mark and overlock the buttonholes for the cord on the collar. Stitch the collar into a loop. Fold in half. Stitch a decorative stitch for the drawstring casing at a distance of 1.5 cm from the fold. Attach the collar to the neckline, positioning the collar stitching seam allowance at the left shoulder seam allowance. Topstitch the collar setting seam allowance with a stretch stitch.
- Press up the hem of the bottom and sleeves. Topstitch the bottom of the garment, the slits, and the bottom of the sleeves.
- Press the jacket when finished.
- Insert the cord into the collar.
