Tip: To ensure the material remains stretchy in the areas of the finished seams, stitch the cut pieces with a narrow zigzag or special stretch stitch. To keep the bottom edge stretchy, overlock the hem with an overlock stitch, then attach it using a twin needle. The same applies to finishing other edges of the garment that should not lose elasticity. These recommendations do not apply to industrial production.
Sewing Instructions
- Welt pockets. Fuse the welt with fusible interfacing, fold in half lengthwise, and press. Fuse the pocket area with fusible interfacing. On the welt, mark the line defining the finished welt width. Stitch the small pocket bag to the wrong side of the welt. Place the welt with the pocket bag onto the right side of the lower front, aligning the pocket marking line with the line on the welt. The outer side of the welt should align with the right side of the front. Stitch the welt. Stitch the large pocket bag to the upper pocket marking line. Cut the pocket opening in the middle between the marking lines, making diagonal cuts towards the pocket marking corners. Turn the pocket pieces to the wrong side. Straighten and press the seam allowances. Stitch the pocket bag edges, securing the pocket corners.
- Assembling the top. Attach the lower parts to the front and back. Topstitch the attachment seams. Stitch the shoulder seams. Set the upper sleeve parts into the open armhole. Topstitch the sleeve setting seams along the armhole. Stitch the side seams and sleeve seams, leaving the slit areas unstitched.
- Sleeve finishing. Stitch the lower sleeve. Press the seam allowance of the upper sleeve. Attach the lower sleeve to the seam allowance edge. Topstitch 3 cm from the hem of the upper sleeve.
- Stitch the collar into a ring. Fold in half. Set the collar into the neckline, stretching the collar edge and positioning the collar seam at the left shoulder seam. Topstitch the collar setting seam with a stretch stitch.
- Press the hem of the bottom and sleeves. Topstitch the garment bottom, slits, and sleeve bottoms.
- Press the finished jacket.
