Button-Front Silk Bastier Bralette

Pattern #5228
Tech. Description

Button-Front Silk Bastier Bralette

Introducing a charming sewing pattern for a button-front silk bustier bralette, featuring sculpted seamed cups with a soft sweetheart neckline, a shirred underbust panel, and a six-button front for textural, vintage-inspired appeal.

When To Wear

This versatile bustier bralette suits a range of relaxed and stylish occasions:

  • Relaxed Home Wear: Ideal for stylish lounging, or as elegant sleepwear paired with matching bottoms.
  • Casual Daywear: For warm weather, pair with high-waisted skirts or trousers for a breezy, chic look.
  • Layering Piece: Wear under an open shirt or slip dress for a soft, romantic layered effect.

Key Design Features

Silhouette: A fitted, longline bustier that sits close to the body and extends onto the ribcage, cropped above the natural waist.

Cups & Neckline: Shaped, multi-panel seamed cups form a soft sweetheart neckline that dips gently at the centre front, edged with a fine decorative trim.

Shirred Underbust: The front panel below the cups is delicately shirred with elastic thread, adding texture and a flexible, close fit.

Front Closure: A functional centre-front placket with six buttons runs down the shirred panel, a classic detail and easy to wear.

Shoulder Straps: Slender self-fabric straps for a delicate, custom fit.

Hem: A clean, straight cropped hemline with a soft elasticated lower edge.

Level Of Difficulty

Intermediate. Requires skills in working with elastic thread for shirring, attaching shaped cups, and constructing a neat button placket.

Sewing Instructions

  1. Gather the fabric for the front parts into smocking. To do this, cut the middle parts of the front 5 cm larger along all edges. On the wrong side of the fabric, stitch elastic threads with a zigzag stitch at 1 cm intervals, without piercing them with the needle. Gather the fabric on the elastic threads, secure the ends of the threads. Place the pattern of the middle of the front on the piece and cut, taking into account seam allowances.
  2. Stitch the side and middle parts of the front panels. Topstitch the seam.
  3. Stitch the side and front parts of the cups. Topstitch the seam. Attach the cups to the front. Press the seam allowance of the upper edge of the cups to the wrong side, turn under and topstitch.
  4. Press the hem allowance to the wrong side, turn under and topstitch.
  5. Attach the plackets to the front pieces. Fold the plackets in half lengthwise, right sides together, and stitch along the upper and lower short sides. Turn the plackets right side out, turn under the open edge and topstitch into the attaching seam. Topstitch the plackets close to the edge. Make buttonholes on the right placket, sew buttons to the left.
  6. Fold the straps in half lengthwise, right sides together, and stitch along the long sides. Turn the straps right side out, press, and topstitch close to the edge. Try on the bralette, adjust the length of the straps, and sew them to the upper edge of the bodice.
