Sewing Instructions

  1. Reinforce half the width of the waistband with fusible interfacing (Heat-activated interfacings are pressed onto the wrong side of the fabric with a hot iron).
  2. Stitch darts, press dart allowances towards the center.
  3. On the wrong side, reinforce pocket openings with strips of interfacing.
  4. On the front panels, create welt pockets with a zipper: place the pocket bag on the front of the trousers, right sides together, and stitch along the marked lines.
  5. Cut the front lengthwise between the stitching lines, and diagonally towards the ends of the stitching. Be careful not to damage the seams!
  6. Turn the pocket bag through the opening to the wrong side and baste.
  7. Insert the zipper into the pocket opening and baste.
  8. Stitch a topstitch along the edge of the frame, simultaneously attaching the zipper.
  9. Topstitch the pocket stay onto the second pocket bag.
  10. Fold the pocket bags, stitch, and baste them to the upper and side edges of the front panels of the trousers.
  11. Fold and baste the pleats on the lining pieces of the front panels of the trousers, press the hem allowance of the trouser lining inwards, turn under the edges, and stitch.
  12. Place the wrong side of the lining onto the wrong side of the front panels and baste along the open edges.
  13. Stitch the side seams, leaving an opening for the zipper at the top of the left seam.
  14. Stitch the inseams. Press seam allowances open.
  15. Stitch the front and back center seams in one go. Press seam allowances open from the top to the beginning of the curves.
  16. Press seam allowances along the edges of the zipper opening to the wrong side.
  17. Stitch the zipper under the edges of the opening so that the teeth are not visible.
  18. Fold the waistband in half lengthwise, right sides together, and stitch the ends; turn right side out and press.
  19. Place the waistband, unfolded downwards, with the reinforced onto the waist edge of the garment from the right side and stitch.
  20. Adjust the waistband, press the open edge inwards, and stitch to the main garment, continuing the decorative stitching around the entire perimeter of the waistband.
  21. Press the hem of the trousers inwards, turn under the edges, and stitch.
  22. On the right end of the waistband, make a buttonhole; on the left, sew a button.
