Tip: Cut pieces from knit fabrics are stitched with a special elastic or narrow zigzag stitch. The hem allowance is topstitched with a twin needle or on a coverstitch machine to maintain elasticity. You can also stitch the pieces directly on a 3- or 4-thread overlock machine.
Sewing Instructions
- Overlock the pocket FACING along three sides: two short and one long. Place the FACING on the right side of the center piece and stitch. Start and end the stitch strictly at the marked pocket opening line. Clip the SEAM ALLOWANCES at the marks. Turn the FACING to the wrong side and topstitch along three sides from the right side. Overlock the curved edge of the pocket LINING. Place the center piece on the LINING and secure with pins. Stitch from the right side. Stitch the relief seam of the FRONT PANEL. Overlock the SEAM ALLOWANCES and press towards the center.
- Stitch the relief seam of the BACK PANEL. Overlock the SEAM ALLOWANCE and press towards the center. Stitch the center back seam. Overlock the SEAM ALLOWANCE and press to the left side.
- Stitch the shoulder seams. Overlock the SEAM ALLOWANCES and press towards the BACK PANEL. Set the SLEEVE into the armhole. Overlock the SEAM ALLOWANCE.
- Stitch the side seam simultaneously with the SLEEVE seam. Overlock the SEAM ALLOWANCE.
- Overlock the shoulder and outer edge of the front FACING. Stitch the outer COLLAR into the neckline. Stitch the inner COLLAR into the neckline of the front FACINGS. Direct the SEAM ALLOWANCE towards the COLLAR. Fold the top and front FACINGS right sides together, insert the ZIPPER between the pieces and stitch the edge of the front opening. Turn the front FACINGS to the wrong side. Fold the SEAM ALLOWANCE of the inner COLLAR at the BACK PANEL inwards and topstitch into the seam of the outer COLLAR attachment.
- Overlock the bottom edge of the garment and SLEEVES, fold inwards and topstitch with two parallel stitches. Secure the shoulder edge of the front FACING to the garment with hand stitches.
